Only a week too late, still holding on to the Stir-Up Sunday tradition. In England, Stir-Up Sunday is the first Sunday before Advent, so 24 November this year. It’s when everyone makes their Christmas puddings and cakes, stashing them away until 25 December. I’m making my grandmother’s Christmas cake recipe, which I’ll feed with a couple of tablespoons of brandy right up until 20 December or so. Then a layer of marzipan plus a layer of white royal icing and it’s done. #christmascake #stirupsunday #stirupsunday2024 #itsnevertoolate #grandmasrecipe #tradition #christmascaketradition #homebaking #homemadechristmascake #homemadefood #baking #homebaking #oostende #ostend #oostend…
About last night… had the privilege to listen to a great set by @fernantzeste and fellow musicians, who performed the songs of Mark Lanegan @marklanegan on the eve of his birthday. He would have been 60 today. Will never forget seeing him live at Cactus in 2014. #marklanegan #marklaneganband #fernandzeste #iamthewolf…
We did it! ‘Erich Heckel in Flanders’ opens on Friday 11 October @mskgent The book, published by @mercatorfondsfondsmercator tells the story of Erich Heckel’s stay in Oostende during the First World War. Over 130 artworks from that period are gathered together in Ghent for the first time, in the similarly titled exhibition. It’s an amazing history, a wonderful oeuvre, and the publication is a joy to behold. Heckel and Ensor became the best of friends during the most difficult years. See the works, and read the book, which it was an honour to translate. #heckelinflanders #erichheckel #erichheckelprints #heckel #museumoffineartsgent #msk #mskgent #germanexpressionism #diebrucke #diebrüke #jamesensor #ensor #ensorinoostende #flanders #oostende #ostend #ostende #firstworldwar #eerstewereldoorlog #worldwarone #mercatorfonds…

30 September is International Translation Day! So here I am to mark the occasion. It’s celebrated every year on 30 September, the feast day of St Jerome, who translated the Bible and is considered to be the patron saint of translators. #internationaltranslationday #internationaldayoftranslation #translator #translatorslife #translatoratwork #unesco #freelancetranslator #translatorsofinstagram #oostende #ostende #ostend…
